Cathedral of Astorga
City: Astorga
Begun in the 15th century as an extension of the Romanesque temple from the 11th and 13th centuries, it enlargement continued through the 18th century. Thanks to this we can admire Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and Neoclassic examples.
Split in three naves, the central is wider than the others, with attached chapels. The Baroque façade appears as an altarpiece.
The main altarpiece, by Gaspar de Becerra; the Renaissance set of chairs at the choir; the organ; Our Lady of the Majesty, from the 12th century; the Hail Mary Most Pure (La Purísima), by Gregorio Fernández; the sacristy; and the cloister are just one sample of what visitors can find at the cathedral.
